Google Maps now has new features. With major technological changes to its app, a better visualization of the maps will be possible. To transform the user experience and make Google Maps even more interactive, the new features have simply made the app even more powerful. The main change is the feature called “Vibe checks” - or simply Vibe. This update is based on an already available Google search feature called “around me”. With this, users can see in real-time what they are looking for, such as a restaurant or popular spot: all of this “live and in color”. The feature also includes photos and reviews of popular places so that users can get an idea of the place before deciding to visit. In addition to this feature, Google Maps now has an even more visual sense of your search location.

Another new feature from Google Maps: Visual forward
Among the new features, the "visual forward" functionality is another major novelty that Google is launching. This will allow users to get a visual sense of a search term which can be particularly useful in the case of travel destinations and vacation spots. As part of this feature, Google will show tiles made of photographs, similar to photo stories on Instagram and Snapchat, in its search results.
Immersive View
Another interesting feature is the immersive view on Google Maps. It makes use of a combination of computer vision and artificial intelligence technology to merge Street View and aerial imagery with weather, traffic, and crowds on a given day and time. But it's not just Google that uses computer vision in an applied way. Other data fusion initiatives have been applied in smart city sectors. Pix Force has been developing tools that overlay Street View images with temperature data on lamppost components, issues with public road signs, or failures in road paving. In other words, Pix has been able to use artificial intelligence resources to solve user problems.
Live View on Google Maps
Currently, Live View uses augmented reality to overlay information such as walking routes on top to show directions. In this way, the new Search with Live View feature allows you to use your camera to find essential places like shops, ATMs, and restaurants when you are on the go. “You can simply lift your camera and see the nearby ATM overlaid on the real world,” said Chris Phillips, vice president and general manager of Geo at Google. In this way, the real and the technological fit in the palm of the Google Maps user's hand. What did you think of the new features of Google Maps?
