A 100% safe solution to ensure a more efficient resumption of activities Prevention methods against the new coronavirus are already widely known and part of people's routines around the world: washing hands well with soap, using alcohol gel to disinfect and clean surfaces when water and soap are not available, using sanitized masks, and avoiding crowds and physical contact with other people. Following these recommendations increases safety in resuming activities for all types of companies, establishments, and employees. One of the most important ways to identify if an individual is showing symptoms of COVID-19 is by measuring body temperature. Fever is one of the most common symptoms of the disease and can indicate contamination in that individual, even in the absence of other symptoms. For this reason, body temperature measurement is being applied in airports, hospitals, supermarkets, and pharmacies. In addition to temperature measurement, other solutions can help in the safe resumption of activities with the easing of business and establishment openings. These include: PPE use inspection, visors with interactive screens, and monitoring of crowds.

Unsafe methods

Currently, the most used way to measure body temperature is the digital thermometer in a gun format, handled by an operator who points the sensor at the individual's forehead and makes the automatic measurement. Another very common way is the standard digital thermometer, which is used under the individual's arm and beeps when the measurement is finished. These methods are not very safe and/or are very slow, as in the case of standard digital thermometers, because they expose third parties to the risk of contagion due to the proximity required to perform the measurement. Thermal cameras can be an option, but they require a large financial investment. Therefore, Pix Force developed Pix Thermo, an automated, low-cost, fast, and touchless solution capable of measuring the body temperature of up to 12 people per minute.

How does Pix Thermo work?

With specific sensors to measure temperature effectively and quickly, Pix Thermo is an automatic screening aid system based on body temperature measurement. It has a lightweight and adjustable structure for people of varying heights. The system is mainly characterized by its low cost, being extremely safe, and having a fast measurement cycle. The safety comes from eliminating the need for a human operator. First, the system performs facial recognition and measures the temperature in a few seconds. After that, a facial search and matching is performed in the system's database. The current temperature is then added to a history to calculate a personalized average temperature. If the measured temperature is significantly above the individual's usual average, an alert is issued and sent by email.
