Industry 4.0, and its specific areas of operation, are one of the main topics among engineers today. What is the role of computer vision in this sector?
We are realizing that, in addition to the trend of smart digital factories, there is a growth in demand for expertise in processes and data quality. For this reason, computer vision has achieved such importance. There is currently no other sensor technology capable of contributing to this development in the same way as computer vision.
With the growth of digitalization of industrial processes, is the demand for intelligent artificial vision also growing?
According to a recent report by the German Industrial Association VDMA, the computer vision market in Germany achieved sales growth totaling 2.6 billion euros in 2017, and a large percentage of this value was driven by the automotive industry. We are seeing a very positive growth outlook. The industry expects sales growth of up to 10% this year.
What are the advantages of computer vision for the automotive industry?
Modern computer vision systems play a vital role in the automotive industry regarding automation and quality assurance. For this reason, durability and ease of operation are of fundamental importance. The systems must also offer easy integration, due to the tight deadlines caused by increased demand, such as in battery production systems for electric cars.
What other innovations do you expect to see in the computer vision industry?
The growth in standardization will connect one process to another more closely and make data-driven process optimization possible. Computer vision and automation technologies, in connection with machine learning, offer several new options for creating innovative concepts, such as smart factories, to become reality.
Pix Force
Pix Force operates in various industrial segments using Computer Vision technologies and methods to offer solutions for Industry 4.0. Computer Vision enables machines to see and interpret, in an automated, fast, and precise manner, images and videos, optimizing and reducing errors in processes that rely on human vision. Combining the use of Vision Systems with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, we provide our clients with the ability to monitor in real-time different quality parameters in industrial processes, collecting data and processing it to alert of abnormalities, create performance reports, monitor trends, among others, without human intervention. In the following link, we present one of our cases regarding the application of Computer Vision in a tobacco industry production line, illustrating the importance of applying this technology in industrial environments.
